Captains Report

The 4^th match of the 2011 season was against Derbyshire at Brocton Hall Golf Club on a fine and sunny morning.

The morning foursomes got off to a great start in the top match where Ben Russell and Louis Birchall came home easy winners with a 5&4 victory, followed by another point when John Haynes and Greg Evans took the second match by a 3&2 margin.

In the third match Brian Belcher and Kevin Beattie used their experience to bring in a third point with a 5&4 victory, unfortunately in the fourth match Martin Crook and Simon Bright lost on the last hole but this was quickly avenged in the final match where the young pairing of Josh Pickard and Patrick Ruff both of Aston Wood came home with a win after making a birdie on the final green to win by 1 hole making the foursomes a great win by the margin of 4 - 1.

The singles were a similar story in the afternoon with victories for John Haynes, Louis Birchall, Martin Crook, Greg Evans and Patrick Ruff with halves also from Ben Russell, Kevin Beattie and Josh Pickard, this meant an afternoon victory by 6.5 - 3.5.

Overall a much improved performance from the last two matchs set up by an excellent performance in the foursomes.

Many thanks to Brocton Hall Golf Club for the use of their facilities and hospitality on the day, the course being presented in excellent condition and a pleasure to play, this was echoed by the Derbyshire Captain.

Result: Staffs 10.5, Derbyshire 4.5.
