Seniors: Cox Chalice & Thomas Trophy

Thank goodness the MET office got it wrong yet again! The predicted terrible weather and heavy rains never materialised and the Staffs Seniors event for the Cox Chalice [handicap] and the Thomas Trophy [best gross] were held at the beautiful Brocton Hall golf Club on Thursday 18th August in superb weather conditions. The event was played from the back tees and pin placements had been made difficult; it was golf in the UK at its very best.

Thanks to the efforts of organiser Terry Henwood another large field of 140 players turned out for the event. Our thanks also go to Mike Cox who, in the absence of mother Sylvia, drove up from Swansea to present the Cox Challice.

The Cox Chalice was won by R Perry & R Rhodes from Lakeside Golf Club with an impressive 43 points runners up were Brocton President Mike Bates and partner Colin Lovatt with 41 points and third placed were J Sawle and K Gorman of Drayton Park.

The new Thomas Trophy for the best gross score was won by Glen McBryde [1] & Bob Aston [scratch] with a fine 67. Runners up were Dave Thomas & Sandy Fraser with a 70.

Our thanks go to Brocton Hall Golf Club for looking after us so well and to all the lady receptionist Sue, val & Pippa for being there all day starting from 8am
