SENIORS EGU REGIONAL QUALIFIER

An overjoyed Captain Nick Copestick holding the prestigious trophy after leading his team to a fine win in the English Golf Union Regional Qualifier at Kirby Muxloe Golf Club on August 8^th. A solid team performance ended with Staffordshire Seniors gaining first place and beating the other nine counties for a place in the national finals on October 4-6^th at Gog Magog in Cambridgeshire. Conditions were difficult, play was off the blue tees and the early starters had heavy rain and strong winds to contend with. The rain did ease but strong winds persisted all day, this with the difficult pin placements accounted for some high scores. Steve Wild and Bob Aston both from Staffordshire recorded the lowest gross scores with one over 72s and newcomer Bob Aston won the best individual score on the back 6.

Well done team and good luck in the finals in October. Our thanks go to Kirby Muxloe for hosting the event and also to Terry Arnold and the MGU officials for their superb organisation.
