About Staffordshire Seniors Golf
Staffordshire Seniors v Derbyshire Seniors at Trentham Park Golf Club, May 2008
D Thomas [Little Aston], P Hodgkinson [Trentham], G McBryde [Newcastle], N Copestick [Trentham], H Jones [S. Staffs], E. Kuhn [Trentham Pk], T Henwood [Captain, Walsall], B Rhodes [Captain; Beau Desert], T Bennett [Gt Barr], N Portas [Trentham], A Dathan [Whittington].
The concept of Seniors County Golf was started in 1996 with the first match against Cheshire at Beau Desert Golf Club. The format is now firmly established and has continued to develop: we play 11 different Midland County teams each year. Venues change each year playing alternate home and away matches all on the better Midland courses. The popularity of this friendly inter-county rivalry continues to grow rapidly with many scratch and 1 handicap players getting involved, standards are improving each year.
New players are very welcome and if you would like to represent Staffordshire in these county matches you need to satisfy 3 criteria:
· You must be a member of a recognised golf club that is affiliated to the Staffordshire Golf Union.
· You must be aged 55 or over.
· Your handicap must be 6.4 or less
At the moment we have a core of some 35 players. There are no leagues but selection is weighted towards the lower handicap players. However, we try to give a game to all qualifying players who put their names forward. If you qualify and would like to be considered for the 2009 season please send your details to our secretary Neil Portas and early next year (January 2009) you will be sent an availability form for the coming season.
