Staffs Vs Derbyshire 2011

Staffordshire and Captain Nick Copestick [Trentham] had a bad start when they lost their opening match of the season to Derbyshire. The away match was hosted by Alfreton Golf Club, an unusual course in that it only has 11 golf holes but of course, using different tees the full 18 were played. It was a delightful short course, very tight but much shorter than the usual courses that the county play their matches on. Again it was another perfect golfing day with wall to wall sunshine all day, the course was in superb condition and our thanks to Derbyshire and Alfreton for being such good company and for looking after us so well.

Staffordshire looked comfortable when they went in 4-2 up in the morning greensomes but things fell apart in the afternoon better balls when they lost 4-8. Things were very tight when on the 18th hole in the last match Derbyshire got up and down for a birdie with a top drawer golf shot from a bunker 50 yards from the green. The only Staffordshire winners in the afternoon were Stuart Belcher& Edmund Kuhn and Tony Wright & Dave Thomas.
