PORTER LIFTS 2010 LEAGUE TITLE

"County Captain, Dean Porter, reports on a successful season for his team.

"Winning the league must go down as my biggest golfing achievment, I am so proud of my team and the way they played thoughout the year. We only used 16 players in 5 matches winning 3, drawing 1 and losing 1 narrowly to Warwickshire. Team spirit played a big part in our success."

"The last 2 games showed just how good our team was, a 10-5 win against Notts away, set us up for the final game at Newcastle, knowing a win would seal the title. The morning foursomes was a close affair giving us having a narrow lead 3-2 with wins for Dave Walley & Kevin Beattie, James Willis & Kurt Bridgen and Dean Porter & Tony Cheese. We needed just 5 points out of the 10 singles: I decided to go out no.1 so I could get in first and watch the matches come in, things went rather well being 8 up after 9 made it a bit easier, with Dave Walley winning it meant 2 in the bag 3 to go. There was a little nervy time when matches seemed very close but the team dug deep and finished the match off 10.1/2 -4/1/2 to give Staffs the Midland title. Double points for the day James Willis, Dean Porter,Tony Cheese, Kurt Bridgen, Dave Walley and Kevin Beattie."

Kevin Beattie (Second Team Captain) for his support, I only had to pinch 1 of his players at short notice which proved a good choice, James Willis winning 3 out of his 4 matches and Kevin put himself forward to play at Newcastle in the final match winning both matches. Thank you Kevin and I wish you success for next year.
