This was a long trip for us all and to a course which none of us had played before.

James Willis was loaned from the seconds and did us proud, picking up a win with Aron Wright. The morning foursomes were shared 2.1/2 . 2.1/2 . The old men at the end of the field, Tony Cheese and Alan Kinvig, are proving to be a strong pairing by picking up another win.

Down to the singles: I mixed the order up and it proved to be the right decision winning the singles 7.5 to 2.5 giving Staffs a 10-5 win. Double points winners for the day Aron Wright, Alan Kinvig and Tony Cheese. Also a mention must go to Freddie Sheridan-Mills who had a great win against Ross Overton.

This was my 100th game for the County and I was going well in the singles, being 1 up after 9, only for the back to give up on me, but I couldn't ask for any more from my players and I thanked them for making my job easy and giving their all for the team.

There were 2nd Team debuts for home club players James Cowburn and Richard Clarke along with former 1st Team Captain Andy Guy playing at his home club.

The morning foursomes went the usual way with Staffordshire only managing two points from the six matches with the only victory coming from Ben Barwell and Martin Crook and two halves achieved by the home debutants James Cowburn and Richard Clarke and Greg Evans and Craig Ingram.

Staffordshire rallied in the afternoon singles as usual with wins at the top of the order for Andy Ellis, Martin Crook and a half from Ben Barwell. Captain Kevin Beattie along with Greg Evans and the two Leek boys James Cowburn and Richard Clarke brought home the other points with the last match on the course being lost by Craig Ingram to a 10 ft putt from his opponent on the last green.

Many thanks to Richard and James for their late call-ups and excellent debuts claiming 1.5 points each on debut, ones to watch in the future I think.

Result - Staffs 8.5, Notts 9.5.
