Staffordshire Amateur Championship 2010

      Staffordshire's Amateur Champion
                       Richard Prophet

An opening round of a five under par 67 and a closing 18 holes at one over 73 for a total of 140 secured the Staffordshire Amateur title for Richard Prophet of Sandwell Park G.C. by 4 shots from David Walley of Wolstanton G.C. (144) who made 9 birdies and one eagle!

In the morning round the SSS of 72 did not change but increased by one stroke in the afternoon to 73 moving Richards handicap to +3.

Asked what he put his success down to he said '..good golf from tee to green and a new putter, although I only birdied 2 out of the 8 par fives today'.

Richard recently came 5th in qualifying for The Brabazon at Huddersfield G.C. with another 67 so will be going to Hoylake in July.  He now goes on to Open qualifying and the Amateur Championship at Muirfield

Sixty-six entrants enjoyed the excellent weather and a well presented course.  Of the 66 players 12 had gained entry through pre-qualifying over 18 holes on the Friday.
