New County Captain Dean Trials His Players
The Captain receives the Salver, awarded to the winning team, from The County Secretary, Martin Payne.
Fourteen players, as well as the two Captains, took part in the 2010 County Trial at Little Aston Golf Club on Sunday 28th March.
This is an annual event and is an ideal opportunity for the Captains and players to renew their friendships and prepare for the season ahead.
The Trial takes the form of a competition between the two teams over 18 holes. The first nine holes played as foursomes followed by 4BBB for the final nine.
This year the First Team won the match by four and a half points to three and a half.
The Captain thanked the players for taking part and Little Aston G.C. for hosting the event.

A new Golfing Milestone for Dean
Dean Porter was installed as County Captain at the Staffordshire Union of Golf Clubs A.G.M in February 2010.
He says what a great honour it is to be elected Captain for the next two years.
Dean has been a member of Sandwell Park G.C. for the last 32 years. On leaving school he spent a brief spell as Assistant at Handsworth G.C. Then in 1984 he, with his parents started a business, Crown Screw, in Oldbury, West Midlands. The present business grew out of a merger with another company and was formed into Crown Screw Ltd in 2005 by Dean and his wife Jill. <www.crownscrew.co.uk>
The Captain comes into office with an impressive playing record which should be an inspiration to his team.
- Thirteen times Club Champion at Sandwell Park; the youngest winner; most wins including the most consecutive wins.
- Beddowes Foursomes winner, with Doug Pash, at Bloxwich.
- West Midland Amateur Champion 2004, 2005
- Runner-up in Staffs Amateur 2004 to John Bandurak
- Runner-up Staffs Matchplay 2004, 2007
- County Caps won 94
Dean says of his new responsibilities:
"I hope to bring a good team spirit to the Team and have chosen to take them to ST. Thomas' Priory for coaching with Mike Beaumont. I intend to get every member of the Team profiled which is aimed at improving their overall fitness for golf at top County level."
Dean on loyalty to the County:
"I feel over the years some players have neglected county golf, whereas I have always felt it an honour and priviledge to represent Staffordshire. I hope I can be a successful Captain over the next two years."
"My wife of 14 years, Jill, has always been very supportive of my golfing career and is looking forward to attending matches when possible."
We all wish Captain Dean every success!
