Andrew Dathan Takes Office as President

The Staffordshire Union of Golf Clubs is pleased to welcome Andrew Dathan as President for 2010/11.

Andrew started his golf at Trentham and Greenway Hall Golf Clubs, in North Staffordshire, in the early 1960s, moving to Whittington Heath (then Barracks) Golf Club in 1973 shortly after leaving Birmingham University.

County Golf
His first association with the County was being selected to represent the Junior Team as a 16 year old.  He was then fortunate to progress through the 2nd team and on into the 1st team; continuing to play 1st team golf for over a decade. During that period Staffordshire won the English County Championship twice in 1971 & 1975.

Andrew was appointed County Captain for 1980/81.

Having achieved the age qualification, he is now a proud member of the Staffordshire Seniors' Team.

Andrew says:
"I am greatly honoured by being elected as President for 2010/11 and will always do my utmost to further Staffordshire golf."

"I would like to thank all those clubs that are hosting County events, for their co-operation and support. We do appreciate the co-operation of members who have their games disrupted by County events."

"Last year I enjoyed supporting Brian Belcher who took the 1st team to the English County Finals and I will be doing my best to help the new Captain, Dean Porter to build further on these achievements."

"The Junior teams under the guidance of Roger Waite show great promise and I fully expect some of these boys to be vying for 1st team places this year."

"The new County Card scheme, under Barry Whittaker, has taken off well and I strongly advise those clubs that have not joined to reconsider.  The benefits to their members are considerable with the total number of clubs at which discounted green fees are available fast approaching 1,000."

The Members and Executive of the Staffordshire Union of Golf Clubs wish their new President an enjoyable and rewarding period in Office.
