Aston Wood G.C. Hosts County Dinner
On Friday 20th November the County Annual Dinner was held at Aston Wood Golf Club.  This is the third time for the Aston Wood venue and once again it proved very popular with the 200+ county members and their guests.

Guests
Norman Forrest, President of the English Golf Union was the Guest of Honour.  Presidents of other Midland Counties also attended as guests of the Union.

Presentation of Trophies
After an excellent meal of Pate, Roast Lamb, Profitteroles, Cheese and Coffee our President, Professor David Thomas, presented Trophies to the 2009 Trophy winners.  The Len Turner Trophy, presented to the person who is considered to have done the most for the County in 2009, was awarded to John Keen (Immediate Past President).  A complete list of Playing Honours for 2009 can be found under the Honours Tab on this site.
A Toast to "The Staffordshire Union of Golf Clubs" was proposed by The President of the EGU, Norman Forrest.
As an accomplished speaker he kept his audience amused with his golfing stories.  He paid tribute to those Staffordshire Members who had contributed so much to County and English Golf.

He was proud to confirm that English Golf had had a very rewarding year with many international wins, just reward for the hard work put in by County volunteers

President Thomas replies
In his response Professor Thomas recalled that he had attended over 100 County, Midland Region and National events during the year.  He thanked the Captains, Players and all his colleagues for their help and support especially Martin Payne for his excellent organisation of the evening; Roger Waite as Master of Ceremonies and wished his successor Andrew Dathan, best wishes for his Presidency in 2010/2011.

A special thank you was extended to the Clubs without whose co-operation and support  the Union could not function.

The assembled company were then well entertained by Lee Wilson, Comedian.

Our special thanks to Aston Wood Golf Club.  Wonderful Hosts!
