Greenway Hall Centenary AM/AM

Greenway Hall Golf Club celebrated its centenary year by inviting County players and members of the County Executive to play in an AM/AM.
County President Professor David Thomas,
Chairman of Junior Golf Roger Waite,
President Elect Andy Dathan - who was returning to Greenway Hall, where he set a course record in 1969 which stood until 2004
and County Secretary Martin Payne,

Each County player played with three Greenway Hall members in a stapleford format (three scores to count on each hole).  A total of 14 fourballs took part.

All the winners received a specially commissioned Greenway Hall Centenary plate.

Staffordshire's Mike Lea (Branston GC) teamed up with John Flowers, Ray Askey and Mick Grocott to score a total of 109 points, beating Dave Roberts, Dave Tudor, Tom Simpson and County player Martin Weston (Penn GC) on the back nine.

The winner of the individual scratch competition for the Staffordshire players was Matt Oliver (Branston GC) with an excellent gross score of 66 (two under par). Other individual scores  were, Dave Walley (Wolstanton), Ian Curley (Leek) both with a gross 69 (one over). Mike Lea and Martin Weston both with a gross 70 (two over) and Andy Guy (Leek) with a gross 71 (three over), all great scores on a difficult day.

The event was organised by John Heaton, Greenway Hall chairman. County Vice-Captain Dean Porter organised the County players for what turned out to be a great day.

The day was rated such a success that it is hoped to repeat the event next year.
