Newcastle's Lone Star Golfer

The following report has been received by the Staffordshire Union of Golf Clubs from

David Johnson Athletic Director / Golf Coach at Paris Junior College in Texas.

I have Jason Timmis one of your county golfers who has done exceptionally well over the last two years here at Paris. Jason will be going to his last tournament for me here at Paris next week when we will compete at the National Junior College Championship in Huntsville Alabama. Just thought you might put something on your website about his career and accomplishments here at Paris. I am certainly no journalist so feel free to make any corrections you see need to be made. I will attach his golf accomplishments to this email.

"Jason has been a pleasure to work with as a student, golfer and person. It is a testament to his parents to have raised such a quality young man. Jason is well liked among his peers and faculty at PJC and was nominated for Mr. PJC this Spring semester."

Jason's golf accomplishments are as good as have been in a long time at the Junior College level here in Texas where he has played against some of the nations best competition week in and week out. His streak of eleven straight All Tournament finishes ranks as one of his most impressive feats. The streak began his freshman year with a win at a match with two four year Universities and carried on thru the Texas State Junior College Championship, the Region XIV Championship which he won and then the NJCAA National Championship where he finished in thirteenth place and earned Honorable Mention All-American Honors. The streak continued thru the Fall of his sophomore year with four top five finishes including two wins. The streak stayed alive until the fourth tournament of the Spring semester where he finished in 8th place. His only finish out of the top ten individually was a twelfth place showing at the Texas State Junior College Championship. Jason has won the Mickey Flippen Cup the past two years which is awarded to the Most Valuable Golfer at Paris. He also won the McLemore Cup his sophomore year which is given to the Most Valuable Athlete in all sports at Paris Junior College.

"Jason works at his game mentally and physically more than any player I have ever had. His golf skills are very solid but I believe his strongest assets are his respect for the game of golf, mental toughness and competitiveness. He never gets too high when good things are happening nor does he get too low when bad things happen. You can't tell by his body language how he is doing and that is rare for a young golfer. Jason's competitiveness is rare in a golfer. If he was playing you in a game of checkers he would want to kick your butt. You don't find that trait in a golfer very often.
We are hoping that Jason can do well at the National tournament next week and has a chance to be named to the NJCAA All-American team and the Ping Golf Coaches Association of America team for the second year in a row."
Jason has received several scholarship offers but has not made a decision on where he plans on attending and continuing his education and golfing career at the University level next year.
"Jason will be missed as a golfer but missed more as a good person around PJC, and we wish him the best in what ever the future holds."
