Spring Meeting at Bloxwich G.C.

Mike Aldridge, Captain of Great Barr, receives the winners prize from Mike Clayton, President of Bloxwich G.C.

Kind weather and some intermittent sun made for good scoring at the Spring Membership Meeting at Bloxwich Golf Club.

Ninety-eight Rye Greemsomes pairings converged on Bloxwich Golf Club on Wednesday 5th May, 2009.  Members were welcomed by Mike Clayton, the President of Bloxwich Golf Club, who said it was always a pleasure for the Club to host County events and he looked forward to welcoming the County again.

The overall winners were the pairing of Mike Aldridge and Eddie Birch of Great Barr G.C. with an impressive 45 stableford points.

Mike Aldridge, the 2009 Captain of Great Barr G.C., thanked his playing partners for their encouragement during the round and commented that it was his best golf day ever.  He said how good the course had played, especially the greeens which were 'true and fast' and thanked Bloxwich G.C. for hosting the event and for the excellent catering.  He also thanked Barry Whitaker and his committee for ensuring a successful day.

Barry Whitaker, the Secretary of the Membership Scheme, said that 26 clubs were represented on the day of which Penn had 23 players; Uttoxeter 18; Darmouth and Great Barr 16 each.

The prize-giving was preceded by the AGM at which it was unanimously agreed to raise the entrance fee from £14.00 per pair to £16.00 per pair from 2010.  This represented the first increase in five years.

The secretary announced that after 25 years of continuous service in the cause of the Membership Scheme he would be stepping down at the end of 2010.  As there is no-one in line to take over the Secretaryship he appealed for anyone interested in taking on the position, or who knows of anyone  willing to do so, to let him know.
