Midland Junior League Final 2008 won by Staffordshire Boys

   Oct 2008 Having seen off Warwickshire and Shropshire & Hereford, the perennial winners of the Midland League West Division League for the past few years, Staffordshire's Junior Team faced the all conquering Juniors of Northamptonshire from the Eastern division at Gay Hill, to decide the annual Midland Boys Play-offs.

Northants season's only blemish was to not take the qualifying place from the Midlands to the English County Finals and they were favourites to beat Staffordshire, having disposed of Notts (2007's Eastern Division winners) 14-1 to take their title.

Staffordshire won the morning foursomes 3-2 to give themselves a chance, with Northants top two of Hitchcock and Myers (and English international) only contributing half a point.

Walsall's Joe Bland, and Freddie Sheridan-Mills took on those two in Matches 1 & 2 of the singles with one match win going to each county. Whilst Staffordshire's middle order then only found a half point, three big wins from Davies, Pickard and Benton in their 'tail' which left Staffordshire needing just one more point to win, and that duly came when this years Midland Boys Champion Jamie Cantello duly obliged on the seventeenth..
