Things were looking bad in the morning foursomes with all Staffordshire pairings down after nine holes.

Dave Walley and Jason Timmis managed a very good half point. Richard Prophet and Neil Wain secured the only win to keep us in the match at lunchtime.

After a team-talk Staffs showed their true colours in the afternoon singles winning six matches to four to tie the match.

Halves for Dave Walley and Jason Timmis and wins for Richard Prophet, Neil Wain, Aaron Wright, Freddie Sheridan Mills and John Whitehouse produced a great fightback. In the end Staffordshire were unlucky not to have taken all the points in the singles.

Result: Staffs 7.5, Worcestershire 7.5

Captains Report

The 3rd match of 2010 was against Worcestershire and played at Kings Norton Golf Club.

The weather was warm but cloudy with a gentle breeze to make the day somewhat of an ideal one for good golf.

The foursomes were again a tough format for Staffs with at one point it looking like a whitewash as we were down in all matches. However Ash Frost and Tom Bourne turned their match around with a win on the last hole and two hard fought halves by Brian Belcher / Andy Ellis and Kevin Beattie / Danny Woodcock made it a respectable 4-2 loss after the morning matches.

The singles were won by 6.5 / 5.5 with the match coming down the Captains match where Kevin Beattie playing against former 1^st Team Captain for Worcestershire, Paul Scarrett needed to win to tie the match, alas with everyone gathered around the 18th green, Scarrett managed to hole out from 4ft to secure the half that tipped the match in Worcestershire?s favour. This was a brave and battling performance from the team but unfortunately we fell a point short of victory and a half short of a tie.

Result: Staffs 9.5, Worcestershire 8.5.
