First Team Match played at Whittington Barracks

In the absence of County Captain, Dean Porter, the first team was led by Tony Cheese of Sandwell Park who reports:-

Leicester, on the day, had a very strong side with only one 1st team regular absent; it was their 4th friendly match of season. Staffs 1st friendly resulted in a 9-6 defeat, losing the foursomes 1.5-3.5, with some new pairings and some tried and trusted. A good win by J.Whitehouse and D.Mercurio and a notable half in the top game through N.Wain and J.Fox.
The singles finished 4.5-5.5 with the stand-out wins being achieved, on his debut, by A.Kinvig and N.Wain beating Leicester no1 D.Gibson
So on to our next friendly against Cheshire at Astbury G.C. on Sunday 25th April.

Staffs 2nd Team v Leicestershire & Rutland 2nd team

The morning foursomes were an evenly fought affair with Staffordshire losing out 3 ? 2 on a well presented Glen Gorse course on a warm sunny April day.

Ben Barwell and James Willis were loaned to the 1st Team late on Saturday night which meant late call ups for Greg Evans and Lee Wain.

There were wins for Arron Wright on debut paired with Greg Evans both players from Enville and Sean Randle paired with David Law again with both players being from Enville.

In the afternoon, 6 matches went either to the 17th hole or to the last hole but it was only Captain Kevin Beattie who managed to gain a win in the singles out of the 10 matches.

This meant a big win for Leicestershire & Rutland 12 ? 3 and although the result looks very one sided had those 6 matches finished in Staffordshire?s favour it would have resulted in a win.
